As she goes around her village, she chants, “Jamu-jamu, buku-buku; Yang mau sehat minum jamu, yang mau pintar baca buku” which means, “Jamu-jamu, Books, books, if you want to be healthy drink Jamu, if you want to be smart read a book.” She lends her books to buyers especially the children.
As a young village girl, poverty didn’t allow her to finish her elementary grades but she promised herself that poverty should not deter her from learning. Thus, even as a young girl she started to make books out of newspaper clippings which she reads regularly to keep her informed.
Learning about her story, Wadah Patron has commissioned a Wadah staff to look for her to know more about her and her works. Believing in her works and understanding her needs, Kiswanti agreed to be under the care and wings of Wadah Foundation. In 2008, Kiswanti’s activities became a full-pledged Wadah-assisted community.
